Antique and Fine China query -- H below castle all in circle below crown, incised R:- I recently found this plate in a thrift store in New Jersey. It has a pattern of blue transferware scattered bouquets, each one slightly different, and a narrow stylized decorative border. There are also faint handpainted gold accents throughout.
There are two markings on the back. One is an incised capital R. The other is a circle surmounted by a crown. Inside the circle is what looks like a castle or an abbey -- a tall tower with two smaller towers -- and the letter H.
It is a beautiful plate, and looks old. I paid $3. for it.
Any help in identification would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hi Mary
Many thanks for submitting your very nice plate! Beautiful blue and white and nice looking scene depicted on the mark.
This is not a mark shown in my books - which can be relied upon to show most well known or well documented makers marks. This means your mark is either a lesser known maker, or not a standard mark of a well known maker. It is an attractive mark beautifully drawn, so I would like to be able to identify it here on this submission.
I would like to call on knowledgeable contributors to please try to help with this one (check out the comments section below for replies).
For valuation advice go here:
My vintage and antique china values pageOne thought is I know that Danish makers have marks with three towers (e.g. Bing & Grondahl or B & G), but their standard mark is not pictorial like yours, it is a simplistic graphic device.
Three towers are also used by Gien, France, Mercer Pottery of Trenton NJ USA, and Mont-Mery Theodore Haviland Limoges France.
I did think it might be a windmill depicted, but the stamp is too faint for me to see. If so, the following makers have used a windmill device:-
Lovatt's Pottery of Nottingham, UK
Faiencerie De La Grande Maison (Hubaudiere) Quimper France
E & A Muller of Schonwald, Bavaria
Limoges China Co of Liverpool, OH, USA
That's just about all I can think of right now, I'd like to get this one solved though.
Best regards
