Antique & Fine China Collectibles - Donkey marked with J under crossed lines
Antique & Fine China Collectibles - Donkey marked with J under crossed lines:- This is from my Dad's estate, was given to him by his Aunt that was married into a family that had a import/export business in Galveston Texas. I have not been able to find the manufacturer or value of the piece. It is a donkey with two baskets.
Any comments would be most welcome.

Antique & Fine China Collectibles - Donkey marked with J under crossed lines
Hi Margaret
Many thanks for submitting your nice piece for our attention. There are literally hundreds of crossed lines marks shown in my reference books (all homages to the great Meissen factory), but sadly none of them yours. This suggests a lesser maker. However, three is a small chance it may be an obscure mark of a better known maker.
The modelling is of quite a good standard (the head of the donkey, the basket weave, the separate tail touching the leg for support, and other little touches are all clues as to nice quality) - suggesting this piece may be antique (over 100 years old) as details like this tend to be harder to come by the newer a piece is (the demands of commercialism and the lack of artistic training kicking in).
Actually, the more I look at this piece, the more I like it, but this is not a well catalogued mark.
Whilst an expert may or may not be able to tell the studio, what they will be able to do is say what region/country this came from, when it was made and the current value, both auction and retail/replacement. They can also normally give a little history and context of the subject matter and influences on the designers.
