Antique Ironstone China Question - J.M. & Co. Bowl

by Sally

Antique Ironstone China Question - J.M. & Co. Bowl:- I recently purchased a huge SOUP bowl with lid that has the pottery mark of Lion and Unicorn with Ironstone China under the lion and unicorn. Under the IRONSTONE CHINA is J.M. & Co.. Now, I have recently learned from your site that after 1890, the country of origin must be listed on the ware. There is not a country listed, Just the mark I have described above! My question are do you know any information as to the date of this item and any information on J.M. & Co.? I can't seem to find any information on the maker. This would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again,
Sally

I have a few more details that I thought you might need since I can't get a great picture of the mark! The mark is BLACK, not blue. The lion and Unicorn are sitting down, not standing like in some marks I have seen! Can't make out any initials in the middle of the lion and unicorn. Under the Lion and Unicorn, are the words: IRONSTONE CHINA, underneath that is J.M.& Co.. I hope this helps you find info for me as to the approx. date and infor on J.M.& Co.

Thanks for that great contribution, Mrs Bond - much appreciated.

Had we had pics, Sally, we could probably have identified which one. To get the best out of this site, submitters are best advised to upload two or more clear photos of the mark (best use your camera on macro) and one of the wares, please.

J.M.& Co.
by: Anonymous

Hi..I'd purchased from an estate several pieces of this company's ironstone china with only the lion & unicorn logo and only on the round bowls the company name. Two 7" square bowls and two 4" diameter bowls plus a small vase, all with flowers painted upon them which appear to be roses and trimmed in gold. Photos can be seen at www.wilmingtonyardsales.com by searching for "recollections" (can't attach them here). I've given one square bowl to a visiting relative as she'd greatly admired it...

Tom

J.M. & Co Ltd
by: Tricia

I have five trios, a cake plate, sugar basin and jug by J.M. & Co Ltd on the saucers & plates, but only the number 1502 on the cups, and initial 'T' and a small x on all pieces. All printed in red. Three small blue dots on each piece as well.

Ironstone China Mark. I have the same one.
by: Pauline

I also have a bowl or more like a potato bowl. With the lion and unicorn sitting down not like the others. With a circle between them and a crown on top with the wording DROIT under the unicorn. Under the work Ironstone China, It says something like C. MEAF and I can't make out the rest of the work and then there is another word that begins with SERS and then I can't make out the rest of the words.

Can you help me.
