Asian Vase Query - pottery mark "Line" above "A":- The symbol on the bottom of my vase only vaguely looks like a line above an A.

I believe it is of Asian background. I purchased it at an estate auction. It is thickly painted and the two sides have different scenes.

Any information you can provide about this vase, its origin, age, maker, etc. would be appreciated.

Thank you

Kathryn

HOW I MADE MONEY FROM BITS & BOBS OF OLD CHINA

The forum Help Elf says:-

Kathryn

This is an attempt at the Satsuma style of Japanese vases, but falls far short of the normal standards seen on this intricate and painstaking hand painted and enamelled ware. The bottom line is that all Satsuma after around the 1880's is a bit 'made for expert dollar', but some is nonetheless beautifully hand detailed by true artists. I believe this item is much later and made in much more of a rush for even more panic for export dollars. Sorry to be harsh on your item, I may be wrong, that's just my view and I am no expert on Japanese wares.

Google Satsuma ware and you will see what I am on about.
