AVON FAIENCE Vance Pottery Mark Query:- I just read the story about the Avon plate...fascinating! It caught my eye becuse of "Avon" which leads to my comment question:-
I have a a piece of pottery which is hand scribed AVON with a 1902 below it and squiggly lines below that. It has a beautiful glaze with shades of turquoise green and yellow on the interior.
I bought it at a second hand store about 20 years ago for 50 cents. I was startled to see that some AVON should be in a museum and I'm wondering if you could take a gander at this one.

Thanks for your interesting query, I really appreciate the time and trouble you took to contact the site and share.
Your little pot is by AVON FAIENCE. It is the "Vance and Avon Shape 128".
Here's some interesting history I dug out, care of
the Journal of the American Art Pottery Association, v. 21 n. 5 p. 26-30 2005. © American Art Pottery Association.
"On March 15, 1901, capital stock of the Vance Faience Co. was reduced from $1,000,000 to a more realistic $50,000, and the office was removed from Tiltonville, Ohio, to Wheeling, West Virginia, a foreshadowing of things to come.
On September 2, 1902, the Vance Faience Co. 0fficially became the Avon Faience Co. The new name may have been suggested by the new manager, William Jervis, although at the time there was no history of an Avon Pottery in England.
It seems unlikely that this name would have been chosen had the company been aware of the earlier, short-lived Avon Pottery of Cincinnati."
