Bow Bell (Bowbell, Bow Bells or Bow & Bells) Charger Plate Query

by Sue Guest

Bow Bell (Bowbell) Charger Plate Query: Antique bone china query: I have recently bought a white charger plate that has a 22kt gold band around the edge made by Bowbell. Can you please give me any feed back on this product it also has a large and smaller fish on it - could it have been put on later?

Thanks for your query about your Bow Bell charger plate. Photos are a must for purposes of identification and general interest and historical record.

However, your query has put me in a spin because, although I am pretty certain there was a company called BowBell or Bow Bell or Bow Bells or Bow & Bells China I can't find any reference to them in any of my antique china encyclopedias or guides either online or offline.

Perhaps the pottery mark was a subsidiary of another maker, like for instance, 'Blue Mist' was an off-shoot of Colclough.

What I do know for sure is there is a well known pattern called Bowbell by famous maker Aynsley, and Mason's also did a range branded as Bow Bells.

There was also an American "Bow & Bell" Restaurant China backstamp from Oakland CA.

Without seeing photos that's about as far as I can take it - so others viewing this and also wanting an identification, please upload some pics. Thanks! ;-)

Happy hunting!

I have a tea set with a lot of dark blue and some gold and a brown/red in the pattern. It was bought in the early 1930s and I am also looking for information.

Adderley turquoise & gold dots
by: Valerie

I am having a real hard time identifying the breakfast set i have bought at an antique fair. It carries Adderley Ware stamps, and on all the pieces 11458 is painted in gold at the back. The set is white with gold rim then a row of alternated turquoise and gold dots, then another gold line. I am looking to buy additional large dinner plates and serving dishes.

Thanks for your help
