I am the author of www.steinmarks.co.uk
I am making an enquiry about the status of a company called Hachiya Brothers of Japan. You will see my database entry for Hachiya Brothers at
www.steinmarks.co.uk/Hachiya Brothers I wonder whether you have the answers to my questions?
1. Was Hachiya Brothers the manufacturer or the Japanese exporter or something else?
2. Do you know what dates they were in business, plus any other information you might have on them?
We have the following sketchy information that Hachiya steins were made/imported in two batches. There were subtle differences, such as rubber washers under the mounting screws for the "pewter" mounts (early editions), and an antique glaze wash on the mounts for the later ones. I also think the coat of arms mark was on the earlier batch, and the later ones had unmarked bottoms with foil labels affixed.
I look forward to hearing from you
Many thanks in advance
Chris Wheeler

Hi Chris
Great info - thanks for submitting, and hope you are finding the site useful.
Right now I am trying to finish a major sculpt to a deadline (see my
Facebook page ….more), and have had loads of forum queries all at once, so I am finding it hard to research queries right at this moment. However, there is a thread already on this pottery mark. You will find it by going to my homepage, or any other page with an in-house search on it and putting in the keywords "japan griffin knot". It will be the first of the organic searches.
Essentially, the info there says: "A.A. Importing Co. St. Louis, Mo" were the importers.
With a bit of luck, some of our knowledgeable contributors will add to this (check out the comments section below for replies) and in time we will build up a useful thread on this company.
There is always the option of getting a specialist to tell what they know. Go tO the following page for further info....
My vintage and antique china values page...good value for $13.67 when you consider all other antiquarian online referral services are either much more expensive (most certified appraiser's charge $75.00 - $200.00 per hour, www.MyGrannysAtticAntiques.com charges $50 USD minimum charge , Worthpoint.com charges $10 UDS monthly membership fee, PLUS $20 USD each report, etc etc.)
