Hi Essie
Please take a clear close up shot of the pottery mark and upload. I can't quite make it out on your photo.
****{ed. Photos now provided and uploaded - see above}****
It assists me if visitors were to upload a clear picture of the back pottery marks as well as the item itself. The technology does not yet allow two photos at once. In other words the form only allows for one photo at a time - but it is a simple job to upload a second photo once the first form has been completed.
Other visitors please note
Best regards

Reply by Peter - having seen the close up of the mark.
Hi again Essie
I used special technology to upgrade and enhance the image, but unfortunately, I am none the wiser. Seeing that it is a Japanese mark, I can refer you to Gotheborg.com who are the specialists in identifying Oriental marks (see link below). Feel free to use my enhanced image as long as you tell them who sent you!
The earliest mark with the word 'Japan' written on the backstamp has been dated to 1921, so this gives your first clue as to age. Anytime after the 1920's right through to probably the 1950's or 60's.
Hopefully Gotheborg can tell you more.
Please report back here when you know (use the 'comments' link below).
Best regards
