Hello, this is a small ceramic vase that my grandma has in her home. There is a second matching vase with a slightly different picture.

The bottom says " Pomona 761" ( as shown). The other vase has a description beginning with the letter S but i couldn't make out the name.

if you could help i am looking for the following:

Name of the maker/ Producer
Age/Time
Possible Value

Beehive Vienna Mark
by: Anonymous

Dear Patrick, The mark on your vase is known as a Beehive mark. It was originally used by The Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Vienna between 1744 and 1864. The mark is taken from the center of the Hapsburg family coat-of-arms. It is also one of the most copied marks in history. Numerous other makers have used the mark or variations of it legitimately in their marking designs but, unfortunately it has also been used to trick the unwary into buying fake items made to appear to be but that are not Imperial and Royal Vienna.
The true Imperial and Royal Vienna Beehive mark is hand-painted therefore the shape won't be perfectly symetrical. The beehive mark is also almost always under the glaze; in this case, a thin clear coat glaze. You should be able to tell upon close inspection. From your photograph the mark on your vase appears to pass both these tests. The other parts of the marking "Pomona" and "761" will be very helpful with further identification. The numerals in 761 are written in the German style that one would expect and that is also a plus.
Without a clear picture of the actual vase as well as its measurements, this is as far as I can go with the identification. If you could reply with a picture and the other information I am certain I can track this down for you. If you want to try on your own, I suggest you run a Google search for "Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Vienna" in general to see if you can find a webpage showing their work and if you see anything that looks like your vase. Then try the search again adding first, "vase" then other variations of search terms taken from "marked Pamona 761" and words describing the decoration on the vase.
I hope this helps and I'll check back to see if you reply.

Yours, Blake Awbrey

A big thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply. Your knowledge is invaluable.

It's not my area particularly, but I have written a detailed response to the 'beehive' question here.
