Hi Szilárd
Many thanks for submitting. I believe this to be modern (from 1960's onwards) and from the East Germany (or Hungarian) section of the eastern Soviet Block.
The sculpting is good in parts but the decoration, glaze and body is somewhat slapdash and inferior.
There is a real tangible difference between seeing a real antique figural group and a more modern version. Old ones are simply better finessed in terms of the time and care taken in the sculpting, the mould making, the casting and the decoration.
It's hard to explain, but you know it when you see it.
The thing is more modern versions have all the commercial constraints of the modern world - namely time is money and money (export dollars) is what these items were made for.
So in the old days there was more time to indulge in art for arts sake. Manual labour (working by hand) was the norm as there was no machinery. In modern times it was not possible to emulate or lavish this intricate care. Skill were lost and speed was king.
