HOW I MADE MONEY FROM BITS & BOBS OF OLD CHINA

Hi Gina
Many thanks for submitting, and hope you are finding the site useful. However, I do say on the form "1 picture is worth 1000 words" and there is no photo of the mark which makes it particularly difficult in this instance.
There are several Sileseian German makers who used the S and crown (S for Silesia). All I can do is list them and say that in my view the sculpting is just OK and not brilliant, but not poor either. To my eye it looks mid 20th Century rather than older when sculptural values were much different and, frankly, better.
Company which used an S and Crown pottery mark are:-
Porzellanfabrik Carl Scheidig - founded 1906 in Gräfenthal, East Germany by Carl Scheidig. After 1917 it fell under USSR state control but was not fully nationalized until 1972. Some of the sculpting form this company is first rate. In the 1990's, the name was changed to Porzellanfiguren Gräfenthal.
P. Donath of the former GDR (German Democratic Rebublic). They were founded in 1833, Tiefenfurt, Sileseia, Germany and make tableware as well as figurines.
Carl Hans Tuppack of the same Sileseian town.
Alfred Voight (Voigt Brothers) of Sitzendorf, Thuringia, Germany.
Christian Seltman of Weiden, Palatinate, Germany.
With a bit of luck, one of our knowledgeable contributors will add a bit to this – (check out the comments section below for replies).
