Staffordshire Coffee Set - Antique Bone China Query:- Hi Peter, I have a full Crown Staffordshire coffee set 6 cups and saucers, coffee pot, sugar basin and milk jug. It is unboxed as it came with the China cabinet I inherited, but it looks unused.
It is marked England under the marking which indicates post 1930 and has the reference A16583 painted on the base in red. I believe it is called Black Victoria It is white, with a blue black design around the top and a gold rim. I have been unable to find its exact age or any idea of its value. Can you help me please.
Christine

To Staffordshire Coffee Set - Antique Bone China Query
Hi Christine
Thanks for your interesting query about the Crown Staffordshire coffee set you inherited. Crown Staffs is a nice maker with a long industrious history and had the benefit of having Jack Jones a notable sculptor and tableware designer working for them for 47 years. You can see my main entry on Crown Staffordshire on this page:
Antique Bone China Makers A to Z (listed under 'C').
I don't have much more information on their marks after the 1930's, so you might need the advice of a specialist on that point. Presumably, you found the query in the pottery marks section showing the 3 different marks I have on file and their relative dates.
I do know is the Wedgwood group bought T.A. Green (AKA Crown Staffs) in about 1973 and stopped making Crown Staffs around 1985. I have seen Black Victoria marked with the 'Coalport' backstamp, so I presume they continued with the pattern but chose not to use the Crown Staffordshire pottery mark.
