FOR THOSE USING VARIED AIR DRIED CLAYS

by J.Sclafani

Peter do you have any critical suggestions to the success of the project we are working on when dealing with AIR DRY CLAY regardless of the manufacturer or even home made porcelain clay?

I know some cannot handle an inflexible armature or you get cracking.
If there are any general rules of thumbs you could offer us that are working with a basic medium like ADC- it would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, your own work is quite impressive and will give many people inspiration! :-)

Many thanks for your kind words. On the subject of air-drying clay. I am afraid my experience is very limited. I tried a couple of the brands when I was starting out, but found the medium very limiting - it was full of fibrous material and was quite rough, brittle and ugly when dried.

In short, it wasn't refined enough for my requirements and I found it something that children might enjoy, but not me.

Having said that - it was many years ago and I am sure developments must have been made since then, so if anyone else has any findings, please post below.

Thanks

Peter
