creating your own china
French Table Ware - Pottery Marks Contribution Comment: In researching some china recently & trying to identify its pattern, I came across a copy of an ad, currently possessed by the Musee de France, advertising the opportunity for creating your own china, crystal, cutlery, etc.....This existed in the last quarter of the 19th century and very early part of the 20th century. I have attached the photo of the ad as it bears the EXACT information on the back stamp of the china I was researching.. I thought it very fun to find this ad & hope others might too.

Thank you Suzette. A lovely piece of information which I very much enjoyed reading and viewing. I would possibly like to do more on this on the site. If you have time, please contact me (via the contact form) so I can ask more questions about it.

The following page is a 'must see' if you are researching fine china - for value and identification:-
Were these pieces meant to be decorated by the purchaser? My husband's great-grandmother (a talented artist) hand painted blanks of fine French porcelain at around the turn of the century.

My understanding is that you (the purchaser) could choose from a variety of styles, colors, etc...offered from their catalog, plus, add a family crest/emblem design...then the company would create the set for you to match your specifications.
