FRENCH URN - STAMP QUERY

I RECEIVED THIS PIECE IN 1968, FOLLOWING MY MOMS DEATH. I WAS TOLD IT CAME FROM OVERSEAS IN THE 30'S. IT IS GOLD GUILDED, RAM HEADS, WITH UNKNOWN STAMPINGS ON THE BOTTOM. ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE APPRECIATED AS MY ENTIRE FAMILY HAS PASSED, AND I HAVE NO OTHER WAY OF KNOWING..

I don't know the mark exactly, but this item looks very much like a marvellous French Faience urn from the 19th century.

However, the mark is a mystery to me. It looks like the original marks have been scratched out and a child has used a felt tip pen to invent new squiggly square mark with cursive letters and has written in the word 'France'.

There is a tradition in Dresden of the decorating studios buying whiteware from manufacturers and putting their own marks over the top of the original marks. However, I am not aware of this tradition amongst French faience makers, but maybe I have missed this tradition. I know there was an uproar when Haviland began to decorate their own fired wares. There were protests outside the factory gates.

We need a French collector or expert to tell us more - please post below in the comments section.

May I be so bold as you get this professionally appraised because although you may not be able to retire to a Caribbean Island on the proceeds, these items can fetch a couple of hundred dollars, sometimes more.
