Goddess in Chariot with Putti Figural Group - Treasure or Trash?

Goddess in Chariot with Putti Figural Group - Treasure or Trash?:- Greetings, my name is Steve, but I prefer Gator as my "Nom de Plume". Not because of the Football team, but because of an interesting run-in with an alligator.

I was just in Reno, Nevada for the Air Races. After the incident, we had a few days left until we returned home. My wife and I went to a thrift shop we spotted driving around. We found a few things that peaked our interest, but one in particular struck our fancy. On the bottom of the Porcelain piece was to downward facing-crossed arrows, with the numbers 7282. No other marks could be found.

I purchased the item and held it in my lap for the entire trip from Nevada to Florida. It has since gone on our shelf. With every other piece on our shelf, we know the manufacturer and approximate date and value. This one is a mystery.

I am hooked on garage sales, thrift shops, and now since watching auction programs, I plan to start attending those IF I get the "Permission" from my wife. That will be easier to obtain if I can prove my "eye" is decent, and I will not be bringing home items that would not sell at our garage sale.

Thanks for your opinion and guidance.

Gator

Goddess in Chariot with Putti Figural Group - Treasure or Trash?

Hi Gator

Great story and interesting piece. There was no picture of the mark uploaded, so it's hard to give you a definite answer. However, it sounds very much like the mark of Arnart, a mass-producer of fake items from Japan in the post-war period. The crossed arrows were ripped off from a very good old German maker called Kalk. Arnart faked many different types of marks - you can read more about this company by using my search box at the top right of every page.

So I wouldn't call it trash exactly, but it's not treasure either. If it was late 19th Century German, I would say it was treasure, but by the sound of the pottery mark, this piece is post-war Japanese.

I have this sculpture
by: Lisa

I have this piece as well, but fifferent color and there is an "A" on bottom with what looks like a crown or an chevron with rays coming out of it. This mark is also in the base with a signature I cannot make out. I wonder if mine is a fake by Ardalt as well or maybe a marriage of companies. I paid a lot for it and was told it was over 40 years old. I cannot find this mark in any of my Kovel books.
