Gold Anchor Pottery Mark on Pair of Period Figurines - Real or Fake:- Hello, I have a small collection (8) various sized porcelain figurines that I received from my grandma.

They were given to her by a wealthy friend (supposedly) and since she passed away, I have had them sitting in a box. Some of them have the "gold anchor" Chelsea mark, but I have no idea how to know if they are authentic or fake.

I have 2 sets of figurines with these marks, and they are in a different spot on each figurine. Each figurine is about 3" tall, the paint was not applied evenly to them.

My gut tells me they are fake, but I would like to know if there is a way to know for sure.

Thanks!

Alyssa

Fake

Yes, please send me a picture of a real one. Are they worth anything if they are fake? I don't want to give them to Goodwill and then see them on Antiques Roadshow a few months later.

Can you tell the difference between a real Chelsea figurine and a fake anchor mark?

The 3 figures in this picture are real Chelsea, the ones sent into us by Alyssa are not.

Can you see the difference? If not, go into a darkened padded room and stay there until the men in white coats come for you....

Fake or Real
by: Dullahan 78

If they were described as "Chelsea" they were misrepresented (if the representation is not to give a false impression to raise the price e.g. to give them away it is not fraud)
There is no such thing as a fake in pottery. A reproduction, a copy, are all genuine, Samson et Cie od Paris reproduced many pieces of porcelain in the nineteeth century these were not fakes even though the original makers mark was on the item. It is just the design that has been used
The fraud is passing off as original

Fraud in Antiques
by: Dullahan78

If someone gives you a figurine and tells you it is Chelsea and believes that, it is not the basis for a Fraud action. If you purchase that Figurine "Believing it to be a Chelsea Item" providing the seller has convinced you it is a Chelsea original. That is a case for fraudulent action against the seller. However the Law is cautious and there is a belief in the term "Caveat Emptor" (Let the buyer Beware) Which means that you as the purchaser must take precautions against being duped (Taking opinion of an expert)
Fraud is rife in the Antiques trade From the dealer who grinds out a manufacturers mark and subsitutes for a more valuable mark to the Auctioneer who knowingly lets a reproduction go through the auction as genuine.
All branches of Antiques are subject to fraudulent alterations From Silver to Furniture and especially Porcelain which is the easiest and the most sought after
