Hand Incised Pottery Mark on Old Worn Art Pottery Stoneware Teapot:- Washing the dust from some of my treasures today, I realized that a stoneware teapot has incised markings on the bottom that appear to be: B, AZXa8 or possibly B, H2Y-A8. Hard to read. The obvious is the capital B followed by a very long comma. The bottom is unglazed.

The teapot is all ceramic including the elongated handle (one continuous piece). Glazed reddish with spout a mixed beige. The lid is glazed similarly and the underside is unglazed. There are nine punctures to allow the tea through the spout. The piece is beautiful and I've never seen another like it.

I am curious of the origin.

This is a nice item. I have no clue of its origins myself - you might need an expert to help you unless a more knowledgeable visitor knows about it.

The clue is in the hand scrawled pottery mark - this must be a studio piece I think. Perhaps out of moulds rather than hand thrown, to sell as a kind of a more reasonable price in the overall offering.
