I Am Down a Scorpion and an Elptic - Pottery Clay Query

by Medo

"I Am Down a Scorpion and an Elptic" - Pottery Clay Query: - I am having problems with everything! First, the elptic like stage which resembles a sand hill in the desert is hard to make because it must be hollowed. The same goes with the scorpion. With the scorpion I don't know if I can maybe leave his hands and tail unhollowed and only hollow it's body, that's my first question.

Back to the e.l.s (elpti like stage) or sand hill:- I need some tips and some direction here, please.

For the snake I did not do any thing yet so please give me some tips.

Thank you,

Medo

Hi Medo

Sounds like you are having fun though!

Please, if you can, send in some photos (use a few different submission forms - only only per form is possible).

Also, you don't say what clay you are using or what size the sculpts are. All these things make a difference.

For example, no need to hollow anything under about 3/4 of an inch thick (as long as you don't have air bubbles - which could break up the piece during firing). Remember to keep sculpt from drying out too much whilst still working on it. Then DRY very very very slowly, especially if you are using a high ball clay pottery clay like 1150.

I don't know what you mean by "Elptic" and exactly what difficulty you are experiencing with the sand dunes.

Give me some pics and some more details and I'll help you further as much as possible.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to complete a submission form.

Best regards
