Impossible Smudgy Cursive 'A' Pottery Mark on Sculpture of Children with Goats:- I have this piece in my possession from an inheritance. I have many pieces like this one that I have no idea where it came from. It is a porcelain piece with 3 children eating grapes with a goat.

Weird, right?

Anyway, I bet nobody on this forum can identify what this is because the mark is barely legible.

All I can say for sure is it is definitely a very old piece.

Good luck and may the force be with you!

Chris

The Forum Help Elf says:-

Weird, yes (although one of them looks like my cousin, Smudge), but impossible no. The force is very much with me and us elves have very sharp eyesight, I'll have you know.

May I remind all - anything is possible on this website.

This looks very much like the mark of Aelteste Volkstedt a very old company which merged with Unterweißbach in the late 19th Century.

UPDATE:-
We recently had one of these marks on a figural group come through the expert appraisal service and it was confirmed by the expert to be a mark of Aelteste Volkstedt. It bears a resemblance to the Russian Imperial mark of St Petersburg under Tzar Alexander 11, and a couple of other German marks also look similar.

There is more on this mark elsewhere on the site - e.g. Pottery mark which looks like a cursive capital 'A'.

Use the in-house search engine too.
