Is it a Bristol Pottery Tankard?

West Country Tankard Mug

West Country Tankard Mug

I got this from a mixed lot at auction a few years ago. Although it is not marked England, I am fairly confident that it is English.

I have seen the mark only once (on Ebay) and it was said to be Bristol pottery but despite many hours online I cannot find the mark.

It looks to be west country style, finely crazed all over and the incised mark is an 'S' within a pot.

I am hoping that with your knowledge of English ceramics you may be able to identify this for me.

Hi Lynne

English studio ceramics is not something I know anything about - or even where to look. My specialist thing is more the English bone china makers (that's the business I'm in!)

Sorry I can't help on this occasion.

Peter
