Is It Anything? - Antique China and Fine China Collectibles Query: I received a plate that has light pink flowers , small end handles, gold circular lines and is signed in gold "Gola" and numbered "31" in gold. I can't find out anything is it worthwhile?

Dear Gina

Thanks for your query and taking the time to fill in an 'Antique China and Fine China Collectibles Query' submission form online. Photos are a must if I am to be able to help you at all on this one. You need one of the piece and one of the pottery mark (use two separate submission form).

I can't tell you much about you piece. Normally, I can tell much from the name, but 'Gola' is not a manufacturer or pattern I have ever heard of, or, more to the point is not listed in any reference books at my disposal.

Generally, if you go to my China Replacement page

and follow instructions on how to price compare your cups - you could normally look around and get a 'feeling' for value and rarity etc. In your case, the rarity value is extreme because there is no reference to 'Gola' anywhere.

There is always a possibility that the word 'Gola' is, in fact 'Gold' (often printed pottery marks are slightly smudged etc. If this is the case, it doesn't help much because 'gold' is a very generic word and no help to identification at all.

If you need the help of expert appraisers or specialist collectors to go one stage further - see:-

Some visitors need expert appraiser information and may have to purchase a 'Classic Appraisal' ($9.95 USD) by excellent online appraisers WhatsItWorth? (they have a team of enthusiastic specialist collectors and experts on hand to answer queries in detail).

If visitors feel like expanding their own knowledge (or want to buy a nice gift for a friend or loved one) they can also purchase a short online course at WhatsItWorth?,

or alternatively, they can buy a fun and interesting ebook with all the tips and tricks of the pros called 'How To Buy & Sell Antiques For Fun & Profit'.

Check it out here:

Hope this helps. Send photos as suggested and let's think again.

Could this be a handpainted plate, with Gola being the artist and 31 possibly being the year? I think it could be an artist signature. I don't know much about this, but circa 1900 china blanks used to be handpainted (by studio artists? amateur hobbyists? both?). Painted, signed, Haviland Limoges and Bavarian blanks are commonly seen. A photo would help.
