Is that a real Meissen? A Simple Crown and 'M' Pottery Mark:- A few days I purchased 2 porcelain statues. After I got home I started to find them on the internet, but I was not able to find any signs that match the ones on my statues. The seller stated that my porcelain statues are real Meissen made ones.

I would like to now the truth and would like to ask for your help.

Are those real Meissen's?

I upload images of the sign and of the statue.

Barbara, you are so welcome, lovely to have a visitor from such a beautiful, historic and exotic city.

Short answer, Barbara, I'm afraid to say - not a chance.

A good clue you are in the wrong place is when a seller looks you in the eye and says:-

"These porcelain statues are real Meissen made ones"

Was he staring slightly too hard into your eyes? Were his palm a touch too damp? Did he scratch his head or fidget with his hands and arms? Most importantly of all, did his nose grow long (possibly with twigs and leaves emerging) as you walked away?

These are not Meissen, they are from any one of several hundred possible makers either in the Far East or Europe.

The m mark with a crown is not one listed in any books we have at our disposal. Furthermore, couldn't they have made more effort with this mark? It looks like a 4 year old designed it. This mark wouldn't win any design awards exactly would it? Compare this with the simple, minimal, classy, yet truly intricate crossed swords mark of Meissen which is hand placed by careful craftsmen with a very fine writing implement.

I think you just had a 'DOH!' moment.

Sorry.
