THE MARK
I am trying to help out a friend whose wife passed away and is now needing to sell some of her things. I have several pieces that are a mystery to me, and my friend and I would be most grateful for any and all help you may be able to provide.
This beautiful vase is already listed on eBay, Item #400242775596. I have included in that listing what I believe I know about this beautiful Japanese Vase, but I have still not identified the mark. Nor do I have a good idea of its value, although I do understand that this site is only for identification purposes.
This is a Gorgeous Antique Japanese Satsuma earthenware vase.
It has a rounded six-sided shape.
It is marked on the bottom (see photo).
I believed it to be dated during the Meiji period 1868-1912.
The mark includes what I believe to be the Shimazu circular family (clan) crest (mon) above the cartouches.
There are scenes with arhats (sages) and with 16 heavenly ladies with 2 eunuchs attending.
The hand-painted figures and gilt work is expertly and exquisitely done.
This stands 6 inches tall.
Condition is excellent with no damage and no restoration.
Thanks for any help you can give me :-)
