'K' Pottery Mark OR 'TK' OR 'JK' Initials Within Shield
'K' Pottery Mark OR 'TK' OR 'JK' Initials Within Shield:- Small Porcelain eggcup or toothpick holder? I actually picked this up at an antique center, in one of the bargain basement baskets.
It is 2" high with a foot & rim diameter of 1 1/2". Looks like transfer print of pheasant. Gilt rims.
The mark is stamped in black and looks like a European mark, I need help identifying it.
Thanks
Lynne

Hi Lynne
Thanks for telling us about your interesting find. Nice clear photo of the mark & piece. I wish all submissions were like this!
The pottery mark is not, unfortunately, a common one that is shown in any of my reference books.
I also searched online using the techniques outlined both in my
China Replacements page and also on those specialist websites shown below. I didn’t find your mark, but feel free to double check. The mark may well be an obvious one to an expert on European porcelain.
One of the problems is I can't tell if the mark is a single fancy cursive 'K', or represents a 'T' and a 'K' or a 'J' and a 'K'.
I agree with you it looks like a European porcelain makers mark. The other slightly incongruous thing about the mark is it looks like a typical mark from recent times. Contemporary marks are very crisp, clean with plain minimalistic graphics with no smudges or stamp anomalies, unlike older pottery marks. However, the subject matter seems quite un-modern - in other words, reproduction or retrospective.
Best regards
