mark twain figurines - Vintage Collectibles

mark twain figurines - Vintage Collectibles:- I have 3 mark twain figurines, tom, huck, and becky. I don't know what they are worth but have the holland stamp on the bottom. Motherinlaw bought them over 30 years ago. Can you tell me anything about these?

Hi Lisa

Normally I don't publish contributions without photos, but I have not come across these before, so I found some of these on Worthpoint, but no values showing:-

The bottoms are marked, "Holland Mold" with the artist's name, "L. Fisher"

Best regards

Holland Mold Inc - Details and History
by: Peter (admin)

Hi

I have just discovered more about this company.

"Holland Mold Inc." was the name of a US company founded in Trenton NJ in 1946 by an Austrian called Frank Hollendonner (sometimes mis-spelled as Hollander or Hollender) and his brother Rudy.

Originally tile makers in their native land, Frank & Rudy began making molds for other companies and also arts and crafts students doing ceramics classes.

Whether they went on to sell their own ranges is something I would like to discover.

My hunch is they may well have gone onto produce their own collections as well as undertake contract contract molding for others.

I found a photo of a boy and a dog (below) which is attributed to them (although I did not get to see the mark on the bottom). This is a sculpt done by a master - which no student could get close to. It is superb. I would like to know more about Holland Mold.

Did they later go on to market their own collections, some of which showed exceptional quality in sculpt and design (as the boy shown below)?

What I do know is the business continued for another half century until finally closing in 1997.

If they did do their own collections as high quality as the boy and dog, as time moves on, their best work would likely become more and more collectible and sought after. I saw some of their items with their backstamp retailing for $200 - $300 USD per figurine. In my view, the value can only grow from this jewel of an American maker if they were putting out stuff of this quality.

Hope this helps.

I would like to build up more information on this company here on this thread, so if you know more about this firm, or are a collector or ex-employee, please do not hesitate to post a comment, no matter how small of insignificant you think you contribution might seem to you.

Let's work together on this.

The question is - were they purely contract mold makers for others, or did they commission their own collections. If so were does this boy and dog fit in?
