Old fluted bowl - Unknown 'Kite' or 'Diamond' Shaped Pottery Mark

Old fluted bowl - Unknown 'Kite' or 'Diamond' Shaped Pottery Mark:- Can you identify this makers mark? It's from a very old bowl with hand painted flowers and a fluted edge.

Thanks for your help!

Dear Visitor

Many thanks for your submission about your fluted bowl and its unusual 'kite' or 'diamond' shaped pottery mark. Unfortunately, the pottery mark shown is outside my area of knowledge. It fits the bill of no notable maker's pottery mark listed in any of my reference books.

As you say it is old - this is consistent with a lack of marking - only newer marks of around 120 years old were regularly marked. Therefore it very possibly carries a value, especially so being hand-painted, so I would suggest investing some of that potential value in getting your puzzle solved by experts.

However, we do have a knowledgeable people who often look into these forums and offer and answer out of the goodness of their hearts, so let's hope this happens on this submission.

Otherwise, you could either go to your local auction house, or for convenience, you can now use the services of several different online firms. I wrote more on the subject of online and offline research on this page:-

Best regards and happy hunting!

possibly asian pottery mark

I have the feeling that I have seen this mark before, possibly on Chinese porcelain. A picture of the item could help confirming this. The drilling of "markings" also seems to point in this direction. They were used on simple tableware only, mostly on bowls or plates.
