Please Help Identify my English Pottery ORANGE PITCHER

The pitcher is just over 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) tall. The only writing I can find anywhere on it is on the bottom; which reads "Made in England" and the number "155.".

Thank you very much for your help in identifying the maker of this nice pitcher.

Sincerely,

Robert Ricketts

Dear Robert

Thanks for sharing your excellent pictures.

This mark will be difficult to identify I feel, even for the experts, as the creamer is fairly nondescript, although pleasant and has a widely used "Made in England" type mark with a not too useful number on the base.

The nearest I have seen to this type of simple capital letters printed and impressed mark from an English maker who definitely could have made this jug is Sylvac - also known as Shaw & Copestake Ltd. They made many fancy character jugs and many other different types of fancy wares, but I have also seen a range of wares with finishes more like like yours.

Perhaps continue your research from here, or maybe other visitors may be able to shed more light.

It is actually quite easy to get a feel of the value of your wares yourself just by looking online in the right places. I tell you how on this vintage and antique china values page. On this page there is also a form which would put you in touch with valuation experts who would be able to put an accurate value on a piece like this, even though they may not be able to identify the exact maker. They can go by the style, the period and the other little clues.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Peter (admin)
