porcelain/china mark query - "RB" Signature on Old Sugar Bowl:- Hi, This sugar basin came from my nans when she died. It has been in the family for at at least 50 years but i can't tell you more than that.
It is a royal blue porcelain/china sugar basin with a large gold ring going around it, there is a fine detail pattern inside the ring flowers, leaves, dots etc. The lid and handles are gold and there are thin gold rings around the lid, and around the whole basin.
There is a mark on the bottom saying "1611 RB" in gold. There are no other marks.
I can't do much else to describe it so please see the photos.
If anyone could help me with the identification of this basin i would be very grateful.
It does look like a piece which could be Sadlers but i'm really not sure.
Please bare in mind the fine detail of the large ring around the basin is not that easy to see, i have tried taking loads of photos but i just keep getting a reflection on me.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
Kind Regards,
Laura

porcelain/china mark query - "RB" Signature on Old Sugar Bowl
Hi Laura
This is a really hard one. I can't match this mark with any marks I have seen and can't find it in any of my books.
By the look of it, it could be German, or Japanese trying to look German.
All I can do is give some suggestions as to companies which either have the right initials or are known to have used RB in their markings.
If I had to say, I would plump for it being post-wart Japanese trying very hard to look European. But that's not bases on any evidence, just gut feeling......
Royal Bayreuth (or Bareuther)
Royal Bonn
French Limoges 'RB' by Broussaud Porcelaine d'Art which I believe is modern, not antique and not at all well known.
RB unknown Japanese Maker
