Pottery Mark on Capo di Monte Tankard Mug with Lion Handle and Bas-Relief
Pottery Mark on Capo di Monte Tankard Mug with Lion Handle and Bas-Relief:- I am glad I found this very interesting website, and I think I am going to spent a lot of time to learn something about marks. I like to go to the flee-market and so it would be nice if I knew something about marks.
But this item was for many years in the cafe of my husband, now the cafe is gone, I wonder if this Capo di Monte item is for real or a copy.
So I hope that someone can tell me more about it.
Please don't laugh about my English writing, I do my best....
Thank you very much!
With kind regards,
Yolanda

Hi Yolanda
Thanks for your great
merged pictures and your nice story about your tankard being in your cafe for so many years.
This is what I would describe as a perfect submission, so no need to apologise in any way.
The thing to always remember about Capodimonte is firstly, apart from the original factory founded in Naples, Italy in 1759 which, after a complex history was eventually dispersed during the Napoleonic wars of the 1800's, there is no real single factory. It is a generic term for a style of wares which emanates from the Naples region of Italy.
Having said that, I can't imagine your piece being anything but very old. Remember, I am no expert, I have much to learn myself, but I just like the feel of your tankard. It looks a high quality piece which is very hard to copy or fake. It also seems to have a genuine build up of dirt around the rim. It is not from the original era, but I still think it is a nice item. I think it may be from the 1920's, but you would have to research this more yourself to verify.
I think an expert really would be able to say what it is and when it was made and how much it is worth. When you are ready for an appraisal, please consider my forwarding service where I contact English antique experts based in London on your behalf. There is a small fee involved, but I have negotiated it to be the minimum possible for the maximum service

Hope this helps, thank you for your time.
