Pottery Mark Query - Blue and white vase marked with an 'X' :- My sister has a blue and white 11 1\2" tall vase that has a floral pattern covering it. The only mark it has is an x,that looks like a plus sign,or a bird, depending on rotation of the vase.
The mark is one inch from the outer edge on the
bottom. One stroke of the mark is off center of
the other.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thankyou
Bill

Dear Bill
I am unable to answer queries without photos.
***{ed. Pictures now uploaded - see above}***
It would assist me if visitors were to upload a clear picture of the back pottery marks as well as the item itself.

Hi again Bill
Thanks for the photos.
The antique maker known to have specialized in blue & white and who sometimes used an 'X' to mark their wares (this is a hand marked 'X' which resembles a bird by co-incidence) was Lowestoft of Suffolk, UK. They were founded in 1757 and continued until 1802. The 'X' was typically on the inside of the footrim, as yours.
The bad news is that there is an immense quantity of spurious Lowestoft now on sale, so you would be lucky to have a real one as they are valuable.
Get an appraisal asap (see links below).
