two blue butterflies pottery mark on blue & white jar
two blue butterflies pottery mark on blue & white jar|:- My grandmother worked for a state college in Maryland. When they prepared for renovations(around 1960), she asked for 2 large blue on white porcelain ginger jar shaped vases.
They feature two small birds (about 1 1/2 inches in length)that look to be calling (beaks open) in a garden of flowers which may be mums. On the back, of the vase/ginger jar, there are only two 1/2 inch butterflies one directly above the other.
They appear to be the inverse of each other and their heads are about 1/2 inch apart. On the bottom is a makers mark of a blue ring inside another blue ring. The vase/jar looks to me as if at one time there could have been a lid. Measures - 9 1/2 inches in height by 8 1/2 in width.
Thanks for your help if possible

Martha
I love the detail of the story you gave about the provenance of the vases.
Let's hope someone pitches up with some more info on these as I have no idea at all.
