Pottery Mark Query: Impressed image of a Roman Centurion
Pottery Mark Query: Impressed image of a Roman Centurion:- This tea/coffee pot (?) (11 inches tall, 3-1/2 inch diameter at the base) was purchased some twenty years ago at a rummage sale in Ohio. It appears to be made of porcelain, decorated with a series of 4 onion-domed churches. The base has an impressed outline of a Roman Centurion with the numbers 0,7 below. The cork stopper is ink stamped with another, though different, outline of a Roman Centurion, encirled by a series of words that are impossible to read completely, though what can be read appears either German or Slavic in origin, together with the numbers 18_5 on either side of the Centurion.
My collection of books on pottery marks and online research have so far been fruitless.
I would deeply appreciate any information on the origins/maker of this piece.
Thank you,
William
