Pottery Mark query - Initals 'OP ENGLAND' within a shield and the Inital 'B'underneath:- Hi, I recently have been helping my Nan to clear out her old things now that she cannot use the stairs she needs more room downstairs. I found a bunch of old plates and pottery I decided to get them checked out to see if the were worth anything before I gave them to charity.

I have never thought about pottery marks until now and dont have a clue where to start with them, although i doubt these will be worth anything, I hope to take my nan somewhere nice if they are.

I was going to write a description bout them but the pottery mark and design is the same on them its only the size thats different so i may aswell just take some pictures and let the pros take a look, =]

after all a picture says a thousand words.

David

Ollivant Pottery
by: Sonora Red

David, How nice of you to help your Nan. Anthony of the matchstrikergallery.com was a great help to me since I completely missed the entry in the Goddens book.
The OP mark within a shield is that of a manufacturer known as Ollivant Pottery. The company was originally called HJ Ollivant but he changed the name in 1948 and later added the Ltd. and the mark to OPL. This lasted until 1954 at which I believe the company was absorbed into a larger pottery maker. As for a possible price, a cup and saucer with a similar pattern (although with a lady over top this as well)sold on ebay for £3.99. I personally have three similar small plates but I cannot remember how much I paid for them, sorry for that. I hope this helps.

thank you

Hi David,
It depends what the mark is on, I have just come across a felix the cat nursery cup & saucer. Because it is Felix, then it has a collectable price.
