pottery mark query - old plate with rectangle backstamp with strange letters

pottery mark query - old plate with rectangle backstamp with strange letters:- Plates found in old china closet bought at auction. I don't know how to add the second picture. Help.

On back has A. 8108 in red (hand done fine point)
the word VIRGINIA (maybe the pattern) under a
rectangular cartouche.

Inside the rectangle are two more blocks each with letters that are hard to read. One set is in 3 sets of block letters that are long (the middle one looks like a ladder--a long H with two cross marks; one of the others looks like long U's in graduated sizes) and the other set are two letters in a capital script I think. They seem to be: like a sigma was an extra line or a W or M with an extra line and two short lines above.

There are also two marks pushed into the ceramic. small and hard for a novice to recognize.

The other side is a beautiful white plate with flowers in the center and the large border is divided into alternating flowers in red and green and blue and gold alternating with a a green , each section marked with a blue and gold line. There are two handles (barely) with a hole in each. They are blue and gold like I have seen on meissen.

Hi

Thanks for your interesting query, and taking the time and trouble you took to upload both pictures.

The rectangular cartouche bears a distinct resemblance to a Cauldon mark from the 19th Century I have seen, so it could be them. The mark is not clear enough for me to compare it exactly, and anyway, there might be several variations only an expert appraiser could identify.

For more information on the long history of Staffordshire firm of Cauldon, read my main A to Z pages on China Makers.
