pottery mark query 'STR' FRANCE beneath crown on white pig figure:- This is a white ceramic pig, lying down with leg extended at the front and back. Also the embossed number 8855 on the base. Picked it up in a box of china at an auction in Worcestershire England June 2011 The pig is a bit crazed and chipped but is adorable. I am interested to know the age, origins and value. I would like to keep him but if I have to sell him, don't want to give him away if he's valuable !!! pottery mark query 'STR' FRANCE beneath crown on white pig figure The forum Help Elf says:- Jo Nice piggy! Mark not known in this office and not in our books either. However, French faience can be valuable even if the mark is not a totally obvious one. Pigs are also collectible. This means, at the right auction, you are hitting both pig collectors and French faïence collectors - two markets for the price of one for this little porker. You need to get a handle on the value though so either ask you nearest auction house or use Peter's online referral service. For general free advice on how to research your collection more and value it, Peter wrote this page: value of antiques. H.E.
