Pottery mark query - "VR" below crown two birds:- I have a vase/amphora that resembles Wedgwood as it has bas-relief Classical figures. It is beige, for lack of an exact color, and the relief figures, lattice and geometric designs are in a chocolate brown. It has two handles which are adorned with a relief design. The stamp on the bottom is made of some sort of other ceramic and is "stuck on" (it resembles a piece of gum!). Impressed in the stamp is a crown on top, a mark with the letters "VR" in fancy script in the center, two birds on either side and two circles (look like coins) on the bottom. I enlarged and darkened the mark to try to help make identification easier.

I would like to date and value this item. Any help would be appreciated.

Lucy

Pottery mark query - "VR" below crown two birds

Hi Lucy

A very distinguished looking urn which is a continental copy of the style of Wedgwood wares called Jasparware - looks well made and antique for sure. Has the look of European versions of Wedgwood's Jasperware in brown and tan. You did well with the pencil rubbing - it makes the mark more clear.

I don't know the mark and it's not in my books as far as I can see, so we need help from others.

If you know this one I urge you to please post below.

Unfortunately, you are in the wrong place for valuations as this is dealt with in a separate section here:-

Personally, as I say, I don't know the mark and found nothing like any type of VR mark at all either online or in any of my reference books. This might even be a tough one for an expert to unpick.

Best regards
