Pottery Markings

by Robert Hall

Pottery Markings Query - initials on the bottom V.F.H.:- My wife has an antique pottery vase blue in color with a "fluted rim". The vase is about 10" tall with a Lion on the lower part just below the rim done in white. There is a vine with leaves below that done in white as well, could possibly be Olive then the base is square with the same branch/leaves design on each side of the square base. The Lion and the branch/leaf design on the upper half is ONLY on one side not both.

There are initials on the bottom V.F.H. and what looks like a "smiley face" , this I am not sure if it is. There are also other etchings but I haven't been able to bring them up as yet even by pencil and paper transfer. I would appreciate it if you could help with the maker and possibly give me some ideas about how the bring out the other etchings on the bottom without damage to the vase.

Thank you for your time and help

Mr. Robert Hall
