I have a cup, saucer and tea plate all with a backstamp showing 'Made in England' with 'delphine china' (caps) marked diagonally across the wording and all encased in lines which follow the outside edges of the words.
There is a number 988 painted on above the backstamp.
The design: ivy leaves, garlands of flowers(orange)/leaves (pale blue, grey, and green) enamled petals and 'spot'design, fluted, gilt edges. Hand painted?
The cup shows signs of spotting in the glaze. Gilt worn in places.
Curious to know the origin as can find no other backstamps to match 'delphine' (caps)
My thanks for any enlightenment.
Regards
Barbara Gray Addyman

Peter (admin) says:-
Delphine is a brand of Hudson and Middleton, founded in 1875, is one of the few remaining bone china manufacturers in England.
For an article on Delphine China within this site, please go to www.figurines-sculpture.com/staffordshire-china.html
You can also put the word Delphine into the in-house search boxes at the top right of every page and find even more info on them.
Hope this helps
