Ridgway bullion cup - commemorative?
Ridgway bullion cup :- If anyone can uncover the history and value of this bullion cup, I would really appreciate your help. Given to me by a friend as a gift, this cup has a pattern in pale blue on a cream base. The design is mostly stars, dots, and a trailing vine around the bottom third of the cup.
The pottery mark at the bottom appears to be commemorative and in the same shade of blue as the cup design:
Columbian Star
Ocit. 28th 1840
Ridgways
England
The words are surrounded by an oval with stars in the top of the border and shadowy drapery in the bottom of the border.
Additionally, in black opposite the mark and upside down, is the number "5."
Sorry that the photo shows the copy in reverse, but at least you can see the shape of the pottery mark design.
Any information about this interesting little piece would be much appreciated.
With thanks and aloha,
Carolann

Hi Carolann
I have quite a bit on Ridgways on this site (a large maker to rival Wedgwood or Doulton in their day). To find it, go to the home page and use the search function at the top of the page. Put in the term "Ridgways" to find all the info on them.
Columbian Star is the pattern. Use the system I outline on my China Replacement page to find a value.
Aloha, peace, love and harmony
