Hi Tawnya

Thanks for your interesting submission.

Hopefully, someone else will come along to correct me, because you are not going to like what I have to say.

There may be one of two reasons why a china tea set is unmarked. One is that it is very old and was made before markings were introduced as a 'normal' thing for makers to do. Second, it is cheap mass produced tat from the Far East.

With your set, I don't think it's the former. The set shown in the photos has all the hallmarks of a product made in a hurry. The bas relief detail has been sprayed with an electrical air-tool (big clue there) in rather garish colors, and the hand gilding of the faux lattice work (itself rather surreal) looks like a 'piece-work' job if ever I saw one.

With quality always goes good design. With this tea set I can't see any evidence of either. Sorry, only an opinion, but I wouldn't have bought this set. Am I wrong? I welcome other visitors shooting me down in flames. What is your view? Please put add any comments in the comments link below.

Tawnya, do you buy from estate sales quite a lot. If so, are you selling on? We all have different 'takes' and 'tastes', so you could well be right and me wrong. Let us know.

Anyone needing valuations only, please go to this vintage and antique china values page. You can also take the opportunity to liaise with experts on that page.

Hope this helps.
