Royal Doulton Glamis Thistle Tea Set - Antique China, Fine China and Modern China Manufacturers Query

Royal Doulton Glamis Thistle Tea Set - Antique China, Fine China and Modern China Manufacturers Query: Peter, My Glaswegian mother was given a 'Royal Doulton Glamis Thistle' tea set for her wedding in 1955. I set about acquiring the same china pattern (didn't inherit a single piece unfortunately) for sentimental reasons a few years ago. I've been unable to find an electronic copy of the original china catalog listing all of the china pieces made in this pattern. Would Royal Doulton have made a standard suite of known service and serve ware items for Glamis Thistle? Is there any literature that would name and describe an itemized list of pieces?

It's a charming pattern that is particularly appealing to the artist's eye - 3 generations, on my mother's side.

Thank-you for any pointers/leads you can provide to me.

To:- Royal Doulton Glamis Thistle Tea Set - Antique China, Fine China and Modern China Manufacturers Query:

Dear Sharon

Many thanks for a particularly nice (touching) query.

I specifically designed my China Replacement page to help people in your circumstances.

I will run through exactly how to use the information. Once on the page you will see there is a review of the various china replacement sites. There is only one serious contender, in my view - US firm Replacements.com.

I am not affiliated them in any way, but they have the only really serious online database of patterns that I know about (free at the time of writing). I have checked and they give a very detailed run-down of the Royal Doulton Glamis Thistle collection, with images. They also have quite a lot of inventory for sale.

I couldn't tell from your email address whether you were from the US or the UK (such is the international nature of my web visitors) but I am guessing US because of your spelling of 'catalog'.

The other place brimming with the Royal Doulton Glamis Thistle pattern is ebay. If you follow the link from the china replacement page through to the ebay search pages, you will go direct to a deep level search page for your country. Once there replace the words "china valuation" with the words "Royal Doulton Glamis Thistle". I saw a complete tea set for £100 GBS - seems like great value to me! Cheap as chips, you might say.

The other place to contact might be the Royal Doulton Company directly who have an archive department. However, in the current climate, I wouldn't hold my breath as they might not have any staff left. Without exception, I find the commercial ventures like Ebay and Replacements.com a much more reliable source of information - because it's market driven.

Just some general tips on china antiquing which might come in useful at some stage:

If you are thinking of maybe selling your stuff at some point in the future and want to get the best possible price, I recommend you get a certified appraisal – it particularly helps on ebay where people are not able to inspect the items, and therefore have to take your word for it.

I've written a special ‘fast track to an expert’ page here:

www.figurines-sculpture.com/antique-china-values.html

which is ideal for anyone looking for a valuation or formal identification. This service is unique online and is designed to protect my site visitors from wasting their time and money online.

Enjoy your quest. I hope you find all the Royal Doulton Glamis Thistle Pattern wares your heart desires!

Best regards
