Royal Doulton Sandwich Tray Valuation Query

Royal Doulton Sandwich Tray Valuation Query:- This plate again, belonged to my Mum who died in 2005. I am gauging from a lengthy search that it (or the pattern) is rare. I am really only wanting to assess if/how valuable it is - without spending money I don't have to do that.

Beyond Ebay which brings up nothing - how else can I guage it's approximate value? I've googled, binged, yahooed and just about everything for well nigh an hour now. I've found items like my plate on auction sites which require you to join to see the prices.

Can anybody point me in the right direction or will I just have to pay to have it valued correctly?

Pam

Hi Pam

Many thanks for your query.

Yes, you are right to use your judgement when to pay for an appraisal and when not to.

These Doulton sandwich trays can normally go for up to $15 USD unless a case can be made they are very special (which I don't yours is). So best not to have an appraisal on an item like this.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hi Peter, thanks for your comments and advice. Of course I am curious now :) - for future reference, what would make anything in this line 'special'? Where/what is the best site or source of info to find this out?

Many thanks!

How To Know a Special One?
by: Peter (admin)

Hi Pam

We'd all like to know that one and we'd all be richer!

For me, a non-expert enthusiast, how I do it is to check out 'the field' online in 2 main places.

First what has been sold at what price on ebay in the last couple of months. SO just go to ebay.co.uk or ebay.com (not your local NZ one) as it's too small.

Go to the advanced search and tick the "Completed listings" box with the search term "Doulton Trays". Hey Presto, you're an expert.

Second, go to Replacements.com china section, Doulton, and go through the blue image bars on the left until you find your pattern. Hard work but worth it. See the prices and divide by 4 - that's about what it might fetch at auction.

Ok, get to work!

Hi Peter
thank you again. You've given me much to pursue. Have certainly found the Replacements site useful and will need a little more practice I think on ebay :)

Much appreciated you have a great site. I like it.
