Royal Doulton signed "Dewsherry" (maybe)
Royal Doulton signed "Dewsherry" (maybe):- I might as well try one other interesting piece from my small lot of plates. This plate is signed on the front, and while I initially thought it could say "Devysheny", I have now come the conclusion that it is "D. Dewsherry" but that might also be wrong.
The back has a gilded ridge, which I thought was quite unusual. The handwriting, "Odantoglossum Cervantesi Decorum" I have determined is a latin name for a flower, probably describing what is on the front.
I gather this is also some kind of cabinet plate, in other words, purely decorative, and not part of a pattern, but this might also be wrong. It would be interesting to know if these plates were handpainted, or printed -- the signature is unusual, and I was not able to get answer googling "Dewsherry" which might not even be the right name. (I have worse luck with "Devysheny").
I am curious to know how old this plate is, and where this fits in the world of china, since it doesn't seem to me to be a pattern, and I have not seen any plates similar to this on any of the usual sources (I guess that just means ebay, but other sellers might be just as bad at describing items as I am.)
