Sutherland Vintage China Tea set - Green with flowers, square shaped plates

Antique Bone China Query - Hi, I am looking to complete a tea set my mother was given as a wedding present in the late 40's. It is mainly green with yellow and pink flowers around the border, gold edging, the side plates are squareish. It doesn't have a number of a pattern on the underside, some cups have handwritten numbers in green but they are different. The pattern is the same as pattern No. SUT22 but the colours are different. Can you help me or suggest where else I can look. Many thanks.

Louise

Hi Louise

Many thanks for your inquiry. I am a particular fan of Hudson and Middleton - the makers of Sutherland bone china. They are one of the few remaining antique china manufacturers to be still independent of the big corporates. If you read my review of them on the main antique bone china page, you will be aware of their history and the historical architectural importance of their factory works.

You have a couple of options - both quite hard work but worth it to complete your collection. The first is to contact Hudson and Middleton direct as they should still have records of their Sutherland patterns going back to your era. You can then identify the name of the pattern.

Second step is to to my antique bone china page Hudson & Middleton listing and click on the Sutherland online auction price guide link. From there you will get a list of all AUSTRALIAN Sutherland wares currently on sale. You may not get your pattern on sale right now, but there is a clever way to search with ebay worldwide and get ebay to email you when the pattern comes up for auction. Email me via the contact form on the site and I will send you instructions on how to do this.

Happy hunting.

Best regards

ps please send me or upload a picture if you can (use a new form and I will include it with this piece)

Hi,

I've just read your post, I have actually just aquired a trio (tea cup, saucer and side plate)and would be happy to sell them if you are interested. I'm in the UK and I was looking to place the set on eBay.
