The 'Made in China' Punch Bowl That Packed a Punch
by Peter Paul Coyle

hi peter' i just thought i would tell you all about a purchase i made some time ago at the famous 'barras market' in Glasgow. i was browsing around one summer's day and came to a stall that sold canton export ware, on viewing the ware's i noticed a rather busy painted punch bowl.
i then asked the price and was told it cost fifteen pound's. i thought the price was very reasonable and purchased it. I've had it now for going on ten year's.
it was nothing special as i thought the painting was not that great, and the only mark on it was a red box with the word's inside marked 'made in china'. then i had a friend who happened to see it one day (he is an antique dealer) he assured me that it was worth money even though it was a late piece.
i was amazed when he valued it at over thirteen hundred pound's. it has taught me one lesson and that is never dismiss an item because it's marked 'made in ?'
