The most mysterious pottery mark signature of all, CARLSSON or CARLSSOM, I think it is Swedish, dated 1961:- I have gone to a list of Scandanavian first names, and can't get anywhere on this. Ilperjit? I would bet on the I and the "git". but not a lot. The last name is either Carlsson or Carlssom. The plate is dated 1961, and appears to be hand-signed in gold.
The front of the plate is pretty BLAH, if you ask me. However, the glaze is quite nice, and so is the signature. There is no mark, just this signature. I assume this is a handmade, not factory made, piece.
I also assume this is some (heretofore) anonymous craftsman. I would love to know the actual name, just for the sake of it. The date is quite apparent. It is interesting to see this gold signature of a plate just apparently made by some guy.
If this is a factory made plate, and this is an important signature that I'm misreading, I'm all ears. Based on the lackluster nature of this piece, I doubt it, though. Again, it is a bad sign when the back of the plate attracts more attention.

I agree with your gut feeling which says that this piece is by an enthusiastic amateur. They got the whiteware and just enjoyed the hand painting of florid subject matter.
Perhaps someone speaking the lingo could try to interpret better the names on the signature.
