Unmarked Fancy Floral Porcelain Dishes:- I have had this set of dishes ever since I can remember, passed down thru the family. I have no idea what they are for or whom they were made by as they are unmarked.

Help!

Does anyone know what these are used for or who they are made by?

Catherine

Hi Catherine

Many thanks for submitting, and hope you are finding the site useful.

I don't know about these apart from unmarked quality porcelain normally means very very old and therefore valuable if they are also rare.

With a bit of luck, one of our knowledgeable contributors will help out on this one – (check out the comments section below for replies).

My expert referral service can be found here:

…a report takes 2 days max and is really good value for $13.67 when you consider all other antiquarian online referral services are either much more expensive (most certified appraiser's charge $75.00 - $200.00 per hour, www.MyGrannysAtticAntiques.com charges $50 USD minimum charge , Worthpoint.com charges $10 UDS monthly membership fee, PLUS $20 USD each report, etc etc.)

What we the small dishes used for?
by: Elsie Morgan

If I am not mistaken, those two dishes look like spoon rests. I thought they might have been made to hold used tea bags. They appear to be from a distant period, which preceded the invention of tea bags.

It they had miniature spoons, they could have been
salt holders, as the shakers were a later invention.
