Unusual M Redon cobalt piece "Claude de France"
Unusual M Redon cobalt piece "Claude de France":- I have recently been given a small collection of nice plates, most of which are referred to as, I believe, "cabinet plates". They seem much too fancy to be eaten from, and one even has textured painting. I would expect they don't have much value, but they are still interesting nonetheless, and I expect they may have been purchased in Europe, based on the webmasters "summary" in which he explains that handwriting on the back is probably European.
Anyway, this is the most attractive of the small plates to me. I was able to identify the marks as M Redon from Limoges, France. The other writing "Claude de France" and "S Asch Tours" with the hand-painted mark in gold are something more of a mystery.
Claude de France is some kind of historical figure, but I could not readily find if this is his crest, of what this very attractive front design has to do with Claude de France, if that is indeed the title of this piece.
I would be curious to know what this other kind of writing is all about, since I have not had very good luck finding anything like this, after quite a bit of googling around.
Thanks for this site -- it is great!#
Richard
