Wedgewood India Pattern - {ed. spelled 'Wedgwood'} Seconds Pottery Marks Query
Wedgewood India Pattern - {ed. spelled 'Wedgwood'} Seconds Pottery Marks Query:- I have just started to collect the tea service, the store ordered it for me but the tea cups have different markings on the bottom. One has a W and the other has a W and what looks like a glass and fork. Is one imperfect or a second? One looks slightly different to the other. It looked like some of the set came from different locations!
Hope you can give me some insight.
Thanks
Heather.

Wedgewood India Pattern - {ed. spelled 'Wedgwood'} Seconds Pottery Marks Query
Hi Heather
Thanks for your interesting query. The Wedgwood India pattern is a very popular (and expensive) pattern.
I searched online for information on the Wedgwood India pattern using the techniques outlined in my
China Replacements page.
On Ebay, where sellers live in fear of their feedback scores, I found the seconds to be clearly marked, and the first quality also to be clearly identified. With any reputable seller, the seconds should be sold as such and not tried to be passed off as firsts.
Wedgwood have a system for marking seconds. Here is a quick run through:-
They sometimes put a scratch through the pottery mark.
They etch the letters "G2" onto the backs.
They place green dots on the bottom of the wares which some crooks have learned to remove (does the base look unusually clean). Check the 'Wedgwood' is clear not smudged.
Are there dents or irregularities in the pottery mark?
Or no backstamp at all?
S/S means special edition for the retail shops (not a second).
Best regards
